Progress monitoring week 6
In my final week of production i have been finishing off every page and making amendments after getting feedback from my audience over the weekend. My front cover, contents page and How to survive a rock festival double page spread are done. I am just adding parts to my other 2 double page spreads and amending the layout to my Top ten best selling rock albums double page spread, as i had made a big mistake and forgotten to add columns into it.
to-

I have now amended this double page spread and its changed from-
After getting the feedback to change this double page spread, i made the image smaller so it was visible as the image was completely lost in the first version. I also changed the text so it was smaller but easier to read; i got rid of the stroke as it made it difficult to read and didn't look as professional. I also added headers to each album and the names of the band and album with a big red number of the order they are in.

My Contingency Plans
My Top Ten Project
Killers
|
What could go wrong during production
|
How are you going to avoid this issue? What’s your
back up plan?
|
|
My models might not turn up
|
Ensure my models know the exact date and time of the photo
shoot and have their numbers/a way to contact them to double check they are
coming in the morning.
|
|
Images turn out blurry/not how I wanted
|
Make sure I have enough photos and take multiple of each
pose in case one turns out badly so I have many spares.
|
|
Lighting goes wrong, too dark
|
Adjust the lighting to the perfect look before I start
taking photos. Take a photo with the lighting to check it’s correct before
carrying on with the photo shoot.
|
|
Work doesn't save
|
Keep saving every 5 minutes or so, have work saved in
another place such as a memory stick.
|
|
Models don’t want to wear the costumes or do the poses I want
|
Have back up poses the models would be okay with in case
they aren't happy with the original ones. Check they are happy with the
costumes I give them before getting to the photo shoot.
|
|
I can’t get tickets to the gig with ‘pulled apart by
horses’ where I need to get my imagery for my ‘New and upcoming band’ double
page spread.
|
Make sure I have the tickets I need, or if I can’t get
them to one gig, get them for another.
|
|
Can’t borrow an electric guitar for my photo-shoot.
|
Use the acoustic guitar I have at home, but first check
with my teacher in music that I can use one of the electric guitars.
|
|
Equipment fails such as the camera.
|
Make sure I have a backup camera for the photo-shoot.
|
|
Have to reschedule photo-shoot
|
If this happens I will make sure the entire layout for my
double page spreads are done so I can just place in the photos when they’re
taken and not leave myself with a lot to do.
|
|
Can’t get hold of interviewee
|
Have another person I can interview just in case this
happens.

Progress monitoring week 5
This week i have been mainly working on my 'New and upcoming band' article. I have successfully followed most of my schedule for this week apart from creating the breakout box for my 'top ten best selling rock albums' article.
My plan for the end lesson of the week was to assess my magazine but since i haven't finished yet i will do this the following week. I still need to finish my 'new and upcoming band' double page spread and add the text and a breakout box.
I had a bit of trouble uploading images on to in design as they kept pixelating, i managed to sort this problem out by using the 'Fit frame to content button which sized my images down perfectly without pixelating. Other than that everything in production this week ran smoothly.
Here are some screen shots of production up to date:
This week i have been finishing off my front cover and have almost finished 2 out of the 3 of my double page spreads.
This is my front cover almost finished.
As you can see by this image of my front cover up to date, its almost finished but is looking a bit bare on the right hand side. There are still a few things i would like to adjust and try a few ideas with such as I'm not 100% happy with the circle text around the 'Free CD inside'.
This week i have also mainly been working on my 'top ten best selling rock albums ever'. Heres a screen shot of where i am up to with this.
The background image is different to how i initially said i was going to have it. I took the images with the 'ACDC Back in black' t shirt on a different model but thought this image was a lot more professional

This is the image i was originally going to use for my double page spread but i am now going to use it in a breakout box.

Photo-shoot gig good images
This image is appearing on my 'How to survive a rock festival' double pager spread and will be appearing on my front cover as one of the poster images.
This is the photo i am using for my double page spread on 'How to survive a rock festival'
I will not be using the photo below but i thought it was a very striking shot and caught the perfect moment at a gig.
Photoshoot good images
These are a few images from my photo-shoot that i think turned out really well and that i'm thinking of using for my front cover. They are all clear and in focus and the butterfly lighting really makes the model stand out.
The photo below is the photo i am most likely going to use for my front cover, it looks affective and is very appropriate for my target audience. As a lot of my target audience are gamers i thought it would be a good idea to have her shooting the guitar like a gun and 'looking through the site' of the top of the guitar. By her looking through the sites of a gun (guitar) its aiming at the audience which draws the person into the cover as the model is looking directly at the reader.
The image below will be on my contents page on the bottom right corner.
I am going to use this image for my 'top ten best selling rock albums' background. I thought this shot was different and quite eye catching.
The image below was thought of after i saw this issue of Metal Hammer, i wont be using this image but i thought it worked well and was a cool shot.

Progress monitoring week 4
According to my schedule I have completed
almost everything on my schedule for this week. I have mainly just been working
on my front cover. I have been adding sell lines and sorting out the colours. I
also did my photo-shoot in Thursdays lesson that went well and I got some very
good images to use in my magazine. I have done everything I set myself on my
schedule except starting on my contents page on Friday because I was sorting
out images from my photo-shoot to use for my front cover.
My actions all went to plan as I am now not
far off completing my front cover and I have done my photo-shoot and I am
almost ready to start production on my contents page.
I haven’t learnt
anything new this week in production but I have developed my skills more in
[photography after doing my photo-shoot.
These are a few of the best images that came out

Project monitoring week 3
According to my schedule my plan for this week was to
-Complete the ‘How to survive a rock festival’ double page spread.
-Create the layout for my front cover
-Front covers sell lines
-Start adding colours to text
-Overall front cover production
I have been
successful in completing all of my aims for this week.
Monday-
In Mondays lesson
I completed the ‘How to survive a rock festival’ double page spread. This
included touching certain parts up such as making the Download festival logo
bigger and fixing up gaps in the text. These are things I got told when I asked
a few people from my target audience how I could improve this double page spread.
This I a picture
of my completed double page spread for ‘How to survive a rock festival’.
Tuesday-
Tuesdays lesson I
planned to start production on my front cover. This started with the layout on
Photoshop. I first created the header using the ’28 days later’ font and adding
colours black with a red stroke around the edge creating red spikes on all the
letters which looks affective on the front cover, suits the genre of magazine
and is grabbing. I then started to add a
few sell lines, these being the ‘New and upcoming bands’ and ‘Free CD inside’.
Thursday-
In Thursdays
lesson I carried on with the production of my front cover, this included making
a circle for the ‘Free CD inside’ to go on. I then figured out how to bend text
on Photoshop to go around the circle CD that says ‘Includes some of the newest
Metal crazes with tracks from-‘.
Friday-In todays
lesson I have been doing my weekly monitoring and am then going to carry on
with my front cover more and get a couple more sell lines on my front cover.
My plan for the
week has gone to plan very smoothly as I have been calm and got everything I
wanted to do done. I wrote on a whiteboard what I was going to have completed
each lesson so I could put a happy face if completed and upload onto my blog
after taking a photo to monitor my progress accurately. I am feel very
confident about getting my project easily finished in time with spare time to
double check everything and gain feedback from my target audience in final
improvements I could make.
I have developed a
few skills on Photoshop such as learning how to bend text, as I was never aware
of this before figuring it out on Thursdays lesson. I have been considering
colours for my sell lines as they may change when I get my photo-shoot done and
my front cover image placed onto my project. I have also added a black
background until I get my image as my backdrop is going to be black for my
front cover and don’t want to use any colours that may blend in with the
background.
I think my client
would be impressed with my progress this week, as I have got a clear
construction of how my front cover is going to turn out. The completed header
looks very eye catching and really fits with the genre. The reds and blacks are
very bold and I think my client would be very happy with the header.
The current state
of my project does mirror my treatment objectives as I have added all the
blacks and red to the header with the bold eroded header. I didn’t include
anything about the stroke on my header in my treatment, which has created ‘spike
like’ features on it. This was just something I tried while creating the header
and thought it looked very eye catching and much bolder than without.
At the current
state I am at with my project I am not at all worried and feeling very
confident with the rest of my production.

Weekly monitoring-week 2
My schedule said this week I planned to-
1. Write my ‘top ten best
selling rock albums of all time’ article: starting my ‘Top ten bestselling
rock albums’ article: I will put each album in order and start discussing each
band and album with how many copies they sold and the most popular songs on
each album.
2. My interview for, ‘how to survive a rock festival’ will be done by
this point, so I will start writing the rest of this article then and adding
more humor to the rough version of this article I already wrote.
3. Work on my blog, upload any finished work and complete and upload
outstanding blog work.
4. Project Monitoring & start making amendments to my ‘How to
survive a rock festival’ double page spread. Firstly adding the interview and
any amendments I made to the original article.
Homework 1:
Interview on the 18th with pulled apart by horses
Homework 2:
Interview on the 20th with a new and upcoming band, and then write
my article on ‘a new and upcoming band’ after getting both interviews done.
Homework 3: Film
studies homework-Start filming for my short film.
Influential photos for my photo-shoot
